Success Stories Based on Specific Condition

The individuals below were treated for specific conditions in our health center.

TENNIS ELBOW

“...I signed up with Janzen and Janzen Chiropractic."

"ART was my last hope. Although the first few treatments nearly 'killed' me, within three weeks I was almost at full strength and playing competitive tennis again. Dr. Janzen has been patient all along the way and has made sure that I had proper exercises to aid my recovery. It’s hard to believe that this technique has cured what I considered to be a career ending injury.” “I am now a convert to Active Release Techniques and have recommended Janzen and Janzen to several friends.”

Rob Lawson
Advanced Level Tennis Player
Courtside Club, Los Gatos

“I’ve accumulated my share of injuries, including those affecting the low back, arm and shoulder…. These injuries (especially the low back and arm) became so severe that 10 years ago I simply quit playing tennis. Since (and before) then I’ve tried many different approaches to address these injuries, including physical therapy (with various therapists), the usual chiropractic spinal adjustments (with various chiropractors)…” “I do consider [ART] to be an extremely important therapy, without which I would not be playing tennis… I highly recommend ART to anyone who is serious about recovering the use of muscles, tendons and/or joints. Give it a try before giving up an activity you enjoy, and most definitely before trying surgery!”

Dan Martin
President of Responsible Metal Fab, Inc
Tennis Fanatic

“I was devastated when the nagging tendonitis in my right wrist grew so severe that I could no longer play tennis. For seven months I was sidelined, all the while searching for a solution to get me back into the game. I tried various approaches such as complete rest from tennis, cortisone shots, acupuncture and physical therapy. Nothing worked.” “One day I saw Dr. Janzen’s ad for ART in “Inside Tennis” magazine, and decided I had nothing to lose. After a few weeks of therapy, I was back on the court – pain free! As an added bonus, I have about 75% more mobility in my “tennis shoulder”. I am now serving pain-free for the first time in years! I am also seeing improvement in my nagging neck and hip pain that I just thought I’d have to live with forever. I recommend ART to all my tennis friends and let them know that they don’t have to live with that tennis elbow or shoulder pain. ART works great!

Thanks, Dr. J, for getting me on the court again!”

SHOULDER PAIN

“In 1998, I tore my right rotator cuff while throwing batting practice for the St.Louis Cardinals. Although I had surgery to repair it, I still had a lot of scar tissue, so it still hampered my ability to throw. After seeing Dr. Janzen I saw immediate results. Within a couple of weeks I was back throwing virtually pain free!”

Carney Lansford
3rd Base, Oakland A’s

“My shoulder started hurting while I was pitching for the University of San Francisco. It started out with just tightness, but gradually began to get pretty sore during and after pitching and would last up to 4 days after a start. I changed my mechanics to avoid pain, but the shoulder just kept getting worse. My arm was losing strength and fatiguing with only a few innings pitched. My delivery to the plate was affected and my season was not looking too bright. I went to the trainers at school where they gave me the “typical” treatments including rehab exercises, massage and muscle stim; none of it worked. A family member told me to give Dr. Janzen and Active Release a try. I started going to him for my shoulder pain and also some elbow pain (that I hurt while throwing sliders). After only 3 treatments, my elbow pain was gone…2 more and my shoulder pain was gone. Me delivery to the plate, my mechanics, and my endurance all returned and were back to normal. I finished my career at USF and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2004 MLB draft. Thanks for all the help, I couldn’t have done it without you guys.”

Kevin Rose
Pitcher, Philadelphia Phillies Class A Batavia Muckdogs

“During my junior year of high school baseball. I tore my rotator cuff in two locations and 50% of my inner tendon in my elbow. The result of this injury caused me to withdraw from the playing field and sit through the rest of the season. My morale was lowered and my chances of returning to baseball were not optimistic.”

“In the months following my injury, I began physical therapy at Kaiser Permanente. The results from the physical therapy were not effective in the healing process of my arm and shoulder. My chances of returning to baseball rapidly decreased. One afternoon while I was engaging in my usual workouts at Golds Gym, I spotted a flyer produced by the offices of Dr. Janzen. Hoping that his medical practices could result in positive outcome in my shoulder reparations, I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Janzen.

“Following the evaluation process, he recommended that I go through a procedure titled “Active Release”, an intense deep tissue treatment. After undergoing three months of weekly Active Release on my injury, my elbow and shoulder recovered completely and were twice as strong as they were prior to the injury. Thanks to the miraculous work of the Janzen clinic I now have the perfect arm for the perfect game!”

BACK PAIN

"Only 4 weeks away from a (UFC) fight in Las Vegas, I knew something a little more drastic than ‘ice’ and Aspirin had to be done. I had heard about a new therapy called Active Release Techniques that was supposed to ‘work miracles’. So, that morning I gave Dr. Janzen a call, who is a local Active Release provider.

I remember walking into Dr. Janzen’s office with my body bent over and my head between my knees, inching along step by step (I still couldn’t stand up straight…and could barely move.) Dr. Janzen did a thorough exam and asked me some questions about my back. He did some Active Release movements on my low back for about 15 minutes and then told me to stand up.

I carefully got off the table, not expecting much difference. As I inched out of the office, I started to stand up straighter with less pain. I couldn’t believe that after only 15 minutes, I was 50% better. I came back to the office and continued getting the Active Release treatments for 4 more days. By the fifth day I was back to training 100%! Three weeks later, I knocked out my opponent in the 53rd second of the 1st round.”

Frank Shamrock
MMA Mixed Martial Arts Fighter
4 Time UFC World Champion

“Since I started my mixed martial arts training at the professional level, the pounding on my lower back became enormous. Every day my back was getting twisted, punched and kneed. I always just ‘put up’ with the pain. However, the pain that I was feeling each and every day was beginning to wear me down. My workouts were being affected for the worse; I was dwelling on the pain instead of my training. It was getting to the point it was difficult just to do cardio work on the elliptical machine. It was also getting more and more difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

Being only 21 years old, I was used to having a body that heals quickly and kept expecting the pain to just go away. It wouldn’t. Wanting to keep my system pure, I wasn’t about to take any pain medications, especially before a fight. I knew something drastic had to be done. One of the fighters at the club told me to try this new treatment called Active Release. The next day I gave Dr. Janzen a call. He found some adhesions in my low back that were giving me most of my problems.

Within 2 weeks all the months of agony were gone…completely. I was able to train and fight with no reservations at all. At my next UFC fight, 3 weeks later, I knocked out the heavily favored Caol Uno in 11 seconds of the 1st round. I only wish I would have known about ART sooner. It was definitely a life-saver.

Thanks.”

BJ Penn
Jiu-Jitsu World Champion
UFC Lightweight #1 Contender

“I originally hurt my back playing rugby. I was dog-piled from the side and felt immediate pain in my low back. The pain was so bad it was difficult to walk. I went to medical doctors and physical therapists with no luck. The doctors actually told me I’ll probably just have to live with the pain.

Fortunately, I was told about Active Release only a few months later. I went in to Dr. Janzen and had him take a look at my back. Not only did Dr. Janzen find adhesions and spasms in my back but he also figured out that the hamstrings were a large part of the equation. He began the ART treatments on my back and hamstrings. Within two visits, the pain in my back was gone and my hamstrings felt the loosest they’d been in years. Almost immediately my speed increased on the playing field and my hamstrings stopped ‘pulling’ (I’ve always had at least one severe hamstring pull every single year). The last two seasons, though, since I’ve seen Dr. Janzen, I’ve had the most pain-free and injury-free seasons ever.

Without Dr. Janzen, I think I would have had to retire by now. Amazingly, since maintaining the ART treatments I feel like I’m 5 years younger. I can’t thank you enough for keeping me on the field.”
